Hello World!

This is my new website for The Data Says.

My name is Sarah Fawson and I created The Data Says to tell nuanced, data-rich stories more clearly through approachable design. I want people to feel energized by data, and motivated enough by what the data is telling them to be an advocate for positive social change.

This originally started as a passion project – I created an instagram where I could publish visualizations I made about politics, the economy, the justice system, and other topics I was interested in and informed about while living in Washington DC. By publishing these designs publicly, I could keep myself accountable to a high standard of data integrity and journalism, and also see my style and my skills grow over time. I still post sometimes… time is an issue, because this is not paid work.

A few months ago I decided to quit my 9-5 job and pursue data visualization design full time as a freelancer/business owner. I work on a variety of things now – web design, branding, visualization design, anything related to information and design really. I love what I do and I hope to grow my brand so I can get more interesting work and share data on topics I’m passionate about and that I think need some help in communicating.
