Product Designs

At the intersection of User Research, UX/UI design, and Data Visualization design, to make products people can enjoy and navigate with ease.

Product Design Case Studies

  1. Apollo: The Army Supply Chain Platform
  2. MangoDB: The Management Insights Hub

These two case studies are adapted from consulting projects I worked on or led. Due to the sensitivity of information within the products or from the client, I have adapted these examples to be a bit more ambiguous, and without any real data. I’ve also created new names for the two projects – read on for more.

1. Apollo – The Army Supply Chain Platform

Background

There’s a big part of the army, with tens of thousands of people. This group is in charge of or involved in a few main things related to resources, namely: managing the supply of physical materials and the deployment of people.

Previously, most of this information was tracked in separate spreadsheets and different software, making it incredibly difficult to collaborate and track anything completely, let alone in real time!

Status
Near launching the MVP of Apollo.

Let’s dive in!

The workflow of the groups within this part of the army were incredibly complex.

Internal & External Collaboration

Our product requirements transfers happened in a few different ways, on a recurring basis.

  1. External COE meetings
  2. Product Manager biweekly demos
  3. Design Team Huddles

Tackling the Design Priorities

Priority 1: Navigating to and through all layers for several different roles.

Priority 2: Building and maintaining a large design system.

Priority 3: Minimizing technical debt.

2. MangoDB – the Management Insights Hub

Background

MangoDB is going through a digital transformation to update their financial and HR systems that collect data used in decision-making.

This is a tough time with lots of change for everyone in the company, and management wants a “data insights hub” up as soon as possible to have better visibility into what is going on now, and into the future. They have seen what Deloitte has built for its leadership internally and wants the same for MangoDB.
